Mosques are more than just places of prayer—they are centers for education, community support, and...
BRAC launched its operations in the Philippines in 2012 in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Since then, we have been working in the areas of early childhood development, youth empowerment, ultra-poor graduation, and humanitarian response.
We drive large-scale transformation by empowering women and their families to overcome poverty, build resilience, and foster resourcefulness. Our cost-effective, evidence-based programmes integrate social development—working across health, education, food security, and livelihoods—with market-based solutions in partnership with local communities.

We prioritise joyful learning and engage participatory approaches for social-emotional learning, play and character development by supporting governments and stakeholders with teacher training, mentoring, and curriculum development.
Our award-winning play-based learning model is an investment towards breaking intergenerational cycles of poverty through early learning opportunities for children during the ages of three to five years. The play-based curriculum cultivates lifelong impact on children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and motor skills, using a low-cost, high impact approach. In the BARMM-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, the aftermath of conflict has led to challenges in early childhood development, worsened by schools repurposed for military use. Empowering parents and ensuring safety and quality care are crucial steps toward improving outcomes for children in the region. The community remains at the centre, taking key decisions through community management committees and attending regular parenting sessions.
BRAC delivers humanitarian and emergency support, providing rapid, needs-based services, and creating livelihood opportunities to foster self-sufficiency for those affected by crises. Our integrated approach builds local and multi-hazard emergency preparedness and response capacities in communities, schools, and local governments.
We combine social empowerment, economic empowerment and education to enable young people to reach their full potential. Our youth empowerment programme in the Philippines trains women and girls aged between 16 and 30 to become skilled electricians for last-mile distribution of clean energy, lighting, and provision of solar installation and services.
