The United Nations adopted the “Pact for the Future”, acknowledging the important role that culture plays in achieving sustainable development goals. This is a new milestone after the recent recognition of culture at the UNESCO’s MONDIACULT 2022, at the G20, and the G7 ministerial declarations.
UNESCO stands on the frontline of international cooperation, in close coordination with sister agencies of the UN System, and as a privileged partner of the Group of 20 (G20). UNESCO shares knowledge, data and expertise to strengthen global coordination in the field of education, the sciences, culture, communication and information, supporting all Member States in the face of current global challenges.
UNESCO is taking part in various G20 moments – Sherpas meet to discuss the progress of the various G20 processes, such as the working groups and Engagement groups. They also oversee the negotiations and provide strategic advice on preparations for the Leaders Summit and Final Declaration.
The G20 provides a forum for discussion between experts from the various members and partners. These discussions focus on specific themes to respond to the most urgent challenges and Brazil’s G20 priorities.UNESCO, as a key knowledge partner participates in the following G20 working groups, with a focus on Priority Africa and Gender Equality:
